Kyujin Kim, PhD Candidate at TU Delft, Wins Best Paper Award at IBPC 2024
We are excited to announce that Kyujin Kim, a PhD candidate at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), has received the Best Paper Award at the International Building Physics Conference (IBPC) 2024! Her paper, titled “Thermal Resilience to Extreme Heat: Preliminary Study on Thermal Fragility Curves,” explores a probabilistic approach to assess potential thermal losses in buildings during heatwaves by developing thermal fragility curves for different building types. This innovative research is part of the MULTICARE project and marks a significant step towards enhancing building resilience to extreme heat and other hazards.
Kyujin’s ongoing PhD work at TU Delft will expand on these findings, focusing on developing thermal fragility curves at the facade component level and designing resilience strategies for facades to withstand multiple hazards, including seismic, wind, flood, and extreme heat. Kyujin expresses her gratitude to the International Building Physics Association for this recognition and thanks her co-authors: Simona Bianchi, Thaleia Konstantinou, Mauro Overend, Jonathan Ciurlanti, and Alessandra Luna Navarro for their collaboration.
Stay tuned for more updates and insights from this promising research!
